COSEE-Ocean Learning Communities, Washington Sea Grant, and the Pt. Townsend Marine Science Center, Puget Sound Partnership invite you to join us for a free event begining the evening of Friday April 10th and continuing all day on Saturday April 11 at the Fort Worden Conference Center in Port Townsend, WA.

     

 

 We will begin the workshop on Friday evening wtih keynote speaker Dr. Bruce Lewenstein, from   Cornell University on "What makes it 'citizen'? What makes it 'science'?" Dr. Lewenstein is a widely-known authority on public communication of science and technology and has done extensive work evaluating citizen science outreach projects including work with the Cornell Laboratory of Ornithology.
  

Saturday will incude a full day of interactive sessions featuring marine and ocean related citizen science panels focusing on topics such as the elements of starting a new program,  training and working with volunteers, citizen science data driving action and change, funding issues, data successes and challenges, scientist and citizen partnerships, publishing and more. Posters of regional citizen science programs and current ocean science research will highlighted during the workshop and provide the opporuntity for more informal learning and sharing.

 

Registration for the workshop is now open by clicking on www.surveymonkey.com/s.aspx.  Registration will close once the workshop is full or on April 3rd.  Register early as workshop space and free lodging at the Conference Center is limited.
