Madison Braxton

I recently graduated from an esthetic program and I love what I do; making others feel good about themselves brings me so much joy. I have always tried to be Eco friendly, but now I am more interested and determined to further educate myself to make it my true life style. The gratification my clients and I share is something I would like to experience with the ocean and its inhabitants.

Cyndi Dawson - Reef Check California Science Director Cyndi Dawson, Science Director for Reef Check California, oversees diver training, manages data collection, analysis, and dissemination, and liaisons with academic and agency scientists. She has extensive experience monitoring California's nearshore rocky reefs and has been with Reef Check California since 2006. Cyndi received a Bachelor's degree in Marine Biology from Humboldt State University in 1996 and a Master's degree in Marine Science from San Francisco State at Moss Landing Marine Labs in 2007. Cyndi's academic research has ranged from using acoustic telemetry to determine habitat use and movement of marine organisms to the study of population dynamics of rockfish. Before returning to graduate school in 2003, she was a biologist for the California Department of Fish and Game for 5 years and worked to standardize monitoring protocols for rocky subtidal reefs in California and develop management strategies for Marine Protected Areas. Cyndi has taught Scientific Diving at Humboldt State University and Moss Landing Marine Labs and is currently an active NAUI instructor.

Sea Urchin's and Ocean Acidification

Sea Urchin's and Ocean Acidification
Stanford scientists have discovered that some purple sea urchins living along the coast of California and Oregon have the surprising ability to rapidly evolve in acidic ocean water -- a capacity that may come in handy as climate change increases ocean acidity.

Invisible Plastic Particles in Seawater Damaging
Plastic nanoparticles in seawater can have an adverse effect on sea organisms. Particles measuring about a thirty millionth of a millimetre, and therefore invisible to the naked eye, are responsible.

Beneath Arctic Ice, Life Blooms Spectacularly

Beneath Arctic Ice, Life Blooms Spectacularly
Scientists have discovered a massive bloom of phytoplankton beneath ice-covered Arctic waters. Until now, sea ice was thought to block sunlight and limit the growth of microscopic marine plants living under the ice.
